Steven Wolbert, Employee of Classified Scanning and Shredding Services, Named Outstanding Performer by NYSID
Rochester, NY—December 16, 2020—Steven Wolbert, a document destruction technician for Classified Scanning and Shredding Services, a Lifetime Assistance subsidiary, has been recognized as an Outstanding Performer by New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc. (NYSID) through its 2020 Joslin Awards Program for proving that steady employment in a rewarding job can turn one’s life around.
NYSID's annual Joslin Outstanding Performance Awards Program celebrates those who have overcome individual challenges to experience meaningful employment on NYSID Preferred Source contracts. Now in its 17th year, NYSID's Joslin Awards Program has recognized 870 individuals since 2004 and awarded 17 of those individuals with the final William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award.
Wolbert began working in Lifetime Assistance’s day habilitation program in 2004 at the age of 20 and later moved to LAICO Industries to try his hand in its classified shredding business.
Every year on Lifetime's Day of Caring, Steven volunteers to help plant flowers and trees at various locations. He also gives back to the community by being an active member of the Fire Explorers, practicing fire drills, learning CPR, and marching in parades.
“I get a good paycheck," says Wolford. "It helps me to pay for trips to Disney World, go out to dinner with my parents, and pay for my karate lessons. I enjoy working on the machines. I love spending time with my co-workers and staff. I like that my job makes Mother Nature very happy because we recycle everything. If I didn’t have this job, I would be pretty miserable and sad. I would not see my favorite staff and co-workers. I would not be challenged. I would be bored out of my mind. I couldn’t go anywhere and do the things I like to do now, like concerts, plays, curling, fencing, karate, and bowling. With COVID-19 going on, I realize how much I love my job and I want to come back.”
Jamie Branciforte, Lifetime Assistance CEO, said, "I congratulate Steven on this well-deserved nomination. His exemplary work ethic, kindness towards others, ability to face life's challenges head-on, and positive attitude is an inspiration to us all. We are delighted to honor Steven's achievements and are fortunate to know such a caring individual."
Jennifer Lawrence, Director of Marketing & Communications for NYSID, said, “Recognition motivates individuals with disabilities to strive for new accomplishments at work and in the community. Sincere congratulations to Steven, and thank you to the Lifetime Assistance family for nominating an Outstanding Performer every year.”
Linda Kadlec, Assistant Production Manager for Classified Scanning and Shredding, who nominated Wolbert for the award said, "This award has given us the opportunity to shine a light on Steven, who is a very likable young man. Steven comes to work and immediately draws you in with his board smile and willingness to start the day’s work. His life changed with the opportunities NYSID contracts provided him."
Gary E. Clarcq, former Chief of the Point Pleasant Fire Department, who also nominated Wolbert for the award, said, "Steven was always outgoing, friendly, kinds, and courteous when attending meetings and drills with me. As a fire explorer, he always volunteered to take on any role and did his best to accomplish what was needed. He is a wonderful model of kindness and shows empathy for others.
Wolbert is from Irondequoit, NY.
